Christian Bowers, MD

Dr. Bowers was a decorated collegiate footballer, named an ESPN The Magazine 1st-team Academic All American, voted a 1st-team all-conference selection, and setting a school-record for game-winning goals.

Dr. Bowers graduated from Medical School at Georgetown University prior to completing a neurosurgical residency at the University of Utah under prominent Skull Base neurosurgeon Dr. William Couldwell. After residency, he received further subspecialty training in skull base, brain tumor, and cerebrovascular neurosurgery in Seattle at the Swedish Neuroscience Institute, under the tutelage of world-renowned expert Dr. Johnny Delashaw. He also won the prestigious 2019 NREF Young Clinical Investigator Award. Dr. Bowers was also the director of skull base and neurosurgical oncology, in addition to serving as associate program director. Dr. Bowers also grew the skull base and brain tumor practice to a record clinical volume and founded UNM as a NASBS multidisciplinary site of distinction. Dr. Bowers Neurosurgical frailty lab grew exponentially and published 125 manuscripts in  his 3 years in New Mexico, including 62 publications in 2023 to go along with 18 national oral presentations at CNS, AANS, and the joint AANS/CNS spine section meeting.

Providing care to the underserved is a huge tenet of Dr. Bowers’ core values and he has only worked at large publicly funded level-1 trauma hospitals. He is fluent in Spanish and provides care irrespective of ability to pay. He began working as the director of neurosurgical oncology at the Hurley Neurological Center in April, 2024. Dr. Bowers also finalized his first patent and is developing the AI prototype. His second patent is currently being finalized.

He is most proud of his family. His wife, Brooke, are celebrating 16 years of marriage this year and have 4 children: Braylon (12), Lola (10), Bo (9), and Mila (7). They enjoy all types of outdoor activities and following the boys’ soccer games on the weekends.
