Michael Githens, MD

Michael F. Githens, M.D., is an orthopedic traumatologist and assistant professor in the UW Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. He specializes in upper and lower extremity traumatic injuries, particularly peri-articular fracture management and treatment of nonunions.

Dr. Githens completed his medical degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine, his surgical internship and residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Stanford University and the Orthopaedic Traumatology Advanced Clinical Experience fellowship at Harborview Medical Center.His clinical interests include upper and lower extremity fractures, polytrauma, and nonunion and malunion. His research endeavors include fracture nonunion, the psychosocial impact of trauma on a patient's recovery and how various treatments may improve outcomes. Other research interests include stem cell therapy for incomplete spinal cord injury, tibia fracture healing and nonunion, and identifying disparities in treatment of femoral neck fractures and optimal treatments for geriatric distal humerus fracture.
